Goal #94: Go to the movies with James

We rarely go to the movies. I already knew this, but realized even more when I saw that I wrote this list in February and haven’t seen a movie with James since then. Weird.

Last night we went on a nice little date. First Chicago Fire. Yes, again… I can’t get enough of that heavenly restaurant. Then we went to see Transformers, which we both knew I would hate, but I went for James. I found it extremely boring.

I recently realized that we have a lot of fun things coming up, and that’s exciting!

  • 4th of July – don’t know what our plans are, but it’s at least a 3-day weekend!
  • The week after that – our 3 year anniversary!
  • The next weekend – James’ 30th birthday! We’re going to San Francisco for the weekend and going to a Giants game.
  • August – weeklong vacation to Seattle! I’ve been waiting for this for a long, long time.
  • Sometime in July/August – Yosemite with Rose.

What a great summer. I can’t believe it’s almost July already!

Goal #31: See The Lion King live

Last night I saw The Lion King at Sacramento’s Community Center Theater and loved it! Everyone always raves about how great it is, and I completely agree. The actors are SO impressive with their ability to sing and dance, especially the children who played young Simba and Nala. They’re only 11 years old and crazy talented!

I loved, loved, loved this show, and I said it last time I went to one, but I need to go to more live shows! This summer I want to see Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Altar Boyz at Music Circus. Can’t wait!

I went with Rose and beforehand we went to Capitol Garage. They have some really good happy hour deals - $3.50 long islands, $3 margaritas, $2.50 well drinks... but the appetizers ($3-4) weren't great. I may return soon for the drink specials, though. Their happy hour lasts until 7:00 too, while a lot end at 6:00.

In other news, I'm loving the Wii Sports that James got me for my birthday! Tennis is my favorite. Golf and bowling are a lot of fun. I totally suck at baseball, and boxing is hard! I thought I'd love boxing since I'm so into kickboxing, but it's hard to get the hang of the game. I played Wii tennis Tuesday and my back is still a little sore! It can be a pretty good workout. Better than nothing, anyway.

My 23rd birthday

My 23rd birthday was yesterday. Monday I had dinner at Tapa the World with both of my beautiful sisters. The food was not good, nor was the service. But Yogurt A Go-Go afterward was. Tuesday I went to my favorite, Chicago Fire, with Rose. And James got me a Wii (!) and vase of tulips.

In my 22nd year, I moved to the neighborhood I've always wanted to live in. I moved in with James, the best guy I could ever ask for. I started my career in the industry I always dreamed of working in. I was promoted twice.

It was a great year. I hope every year gets better.

May/June weight loss

I was supposed to update my weight loss progress (ahem, or rather, weight gain…) at the end of May. However, I didn’t own a scale and my boss took the one that we were using for The Biggest Loser contest home. I was weighing myself at the gym, but I always go after work. You are mistaken if you think I’m going to count my end-of-the-day weight, after eating 2 – 3 meals! That makes a big difference!

So this weekend I finally picked up my own digital scale, which tells me I’ve gained 1 pound since the end of April. That’s not as bad as it could be, but still crappy. I’ve been working a little more, causing me to miss my kickboxing class. To make it, I have to leave right at 5:00. And if I can’t go to kickboxing, I sometimes won’t work out at all, because everything else is boring and hard! I have lots of lame excuses and need to do better :(

I’m still keeping track of my calorie intake, which is probably why I haven’t gained more. I’m eating about 1700 a day. The goal is always 1500, but I’m not going to go hungry!

Next update to come in a month or so…

A busy weekend

This weekend was a lot of fun! I was able to see my Aunt Karen for the first time in years and hang out with all 3 of my siblings.

Chevy’s on the river on Saturday.

Sunday we had brunch at Bistro 33 – good food, okay service – and walked to Capitol Park, followed by a Rivercats game (goal #57).

What I was not able to do was laundry, and man do I need to... but I just don't feel like it tonight

Such a Pretty Fat by Jen Lancaster

I've finally started reading books! It's been a really bad habit of mine, like forever, to watch way too much TV. Whenever I'm bored I have the TV on and I never think to pick up a book. I feel lame whenever people talk about their favorite authors and I really have nothing to contribute, because I never read. That's why I put reading on my list of 100 goals to accomplish before my 30th birthday.

I just (well, a few weeks ago. I forgot to blog it though) finished Such a Pretty Fat*. Several of the women in my office had read it and loved it, and they assured me that with my sense of humor I'd love it as well. It's a memoir about Jen's attempt to loose weight to improve her health. It's really funny and I did enjoy it. It's totally a chick book.

I have several books on queue that my mom's recommended and snuck onto my nightstand when she came to visit. She always hides food in my fridge and books and magazines in my bedroom when she comes to visit. Hopefully my next book "review" will be soon!

*Blogger doesn't let me underline words that aren't links. This is bothering me because the correct way to write a book title is to underline it, not italicize.

Goals #96 and 97

Goal #96: Go see The Undulations play live.
Goal #97: Go to Music in the Park.

Wednesday night I multi-tasked by seeing The Undulations at Music in the Park in Davis.

The Davis one is nice because the have a concert combined with a farmer’s market. We bought cherries and a giant zucchini. Sadly, they didn’t have the sweet potatoes I’ve been dying to eat for the last week, so I will have to go to Safeway this weekend.

The Undulations have another show tomorrow that we'll be going to as well.
