Book reviews

Over my week off for Christmas, I found myself with a lot of free time and managed to read 3 books in 5 days. To be honest, I probably read that many books in the last year. I really need to make it a habit because it's fun! Here's what I read.

Honeymoon by James Patterson

My friend gave me this book and insisted that I read it and would love it. She read it in 4 days... well I read it in 2! It's a thriller about a woman who dates rich men and an investigation into her multiple lives. It was great. I'd like to read more Patterson books.

Sliding Into Home by Kendra Wilkinson

I asked my secret santa for this book and it turned out to be James! I read this book in 2 days as well. I found it interesting because I'm a big fan of The Girls Next Door and Kendra. Anyone who isn't probably wouldn't like it, but they wouldn't read it anyway!

Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy

I bought this because I heard somewhere that it's "so hilarious!" but I didn't agree. It mostly just scared the crap out of me, and it's supposed to be funny but... eh. Okay I did laugh out loud in one part. It was kind of interesting but I wouldn't recommend it. It's about how horrible and painful and stressful pregnancy is.

Momzillas by Jill Kargman

Last week I finished Momzillas by Jill Kargman. I tried to start an intellectual book, but just couldn't get into it... so I read more chick lit. Better than nothing!

The book is about Hannah's transition from living in San Francisco to living in Manhattan, as she struggles to adapt while meeting other moms in New York who are stuck up and very competitive. She feels lonely as she tries to get used to her family's new city, where everything seems fake.

This book was okay, although I found a lot of the situations hard to believe. It wasn't very realistic, especially in the end when everything turned out perfectly, fairytale style. It was moderately entertaining for me, but it's just average.

A Bump in the Road by Maureen Lipinski

While browsing Amazon.com, I saw this book and became intrigued. I decided I had to buy it to find out what happened when Clare became unexpectedly pregnant.

She and her husband were in their 20s, having a great time being a fun, childless couple. They didn't plan to have kids, because that would cramp their style. Of course, they got pregnant accidentally and suddenly Clare had to learn about childbirth and caring for an infant.

The book is really funny. She describes her shift in priorities as reality sets in that she’ll be a parent, while making fun of her obnoxious coworker and mother-in-law.

I liked it, although I wouldn’t say it’s a favorite. I recommend it for an easy and girly read.

Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

I didn't expect to get really into this book, but the second half I read really quickly because I just had to find out what happened. It's a super girly book, basically about a relationship with some other details thrown in, and pretty funny. I liked it.

Such a Pretty Fat by Jen Lancaster

I've finally started reading books! It's been a really bad habit of mine, like forever, to watch way too much TV. Whenever I'm bored I have the TV on and I never think to pick up a book. I feel lame whenever people talk about their favorite authors and I really have nothing to contribute, because I never read. That's why I put reading on my list of 100 goals to accomplish before my 30th birthday.

I just (well, a few weeks ago. I forgot to blog it though) finished Such a Pretty Fat*. Several of the women in my office had read it and loved it, and they assured me that with my sense of humor I'd love it as well. It's a memoir about Jen's attempt to loose weight to improve her health. It's really funny and I did enjoy it. It's totally a chick book.

I have several books on queue that my mom's recommended and snuck onto my nightstand when she came to visit. She always hides food in my fridge and books and magazines in my bedroom when she comes to visit. Hopefully my next book "review" will be soon!

*Blogger doesn't let me underline words that aren't links. This is bothering me because the correct way to write a book title is to underline it, not italicize.
